Questions asked in NMIMS Interview
I am Nimisha Shrivastava. I completed 12th from International Public School, Bhopal. In 12th, I decided that I want to pursue Company Secretary (CS) and also do graduation simultaneously. I registered on ICSI and took admission in BSSS college in Bhopal in BCom Hons.
In December 2016, I gave CS Foundation and cleared on the first attempt and it boosted my confidence as I was not expecting that and filled the form for CS Executive December 2017 attempt. But unfortunately, I could not clear it. It got difficult managing full-time college and CS, and I decided to quit after on more attempt of CS Executive in June 2018. I couldn’t clear this attempt also.
I always had an inclination towards management but was not sure how to deal with it. After a few counselling sessions, I decided to give it a shot. But there were many challenges on this path which I was beginning to walk on. I wanted to indulge in self-study rather a coaching class. I found it convenient for myself to sit at home study for 4-6 hours a day.
After preparation of 3 months, I gave NMAT, CAT, SNAP, TISS, CMAT and MHCET. I was not sure which exam I will be able to clear and gave as many as I could. I prepared for CMAT and SNAP with my Semester exams and it got difficult to manage, but I didn’t lose hope.
CAT results came in January 2019 and my percentile was very low. I was disheartened. But I kept myself going, thinking that I have to keep moving forward and not think about failures. NMAT results came in two weeks after that and I got a score of 190. This was the last year cutoff for NMIMS PGDM programs and I was hopeful that it will not change this year as well.
I also got 99.03 percentile in CMAT and got calls from KJ Somaiya and Great Lakes.

NMIMS CD-PI EXPERIENCE
Usually, most of the colleges have GD as part of the selection process, but CD is different from GD in the manner that in Case Discussions there is a case which is presented to students and they have a derive a conclusion or solve a problem or answer the questions given, based on such case.
Therefore, to prepare for CD, I had to solve a handful of cases to get the grip of how to speak and what to speak. I joined groups of call getters on WhatsApp and decided that we all will discuss cases on call. We found cases online and it turned out that we are able to discuss 2 cases in a span of 30 mins. Usually, there used to be a group of 6-7 people on a call.
We started this after the official results for NMAT came out, i.e. in the last week of January. The interview process started on 13th February 2019. We had around 15 days in hand, we regularly did 2-3 cases.
On the day of the interview, I was terrified as I never attended an interview in my entire life. My reporting time was 8:30 am and the process began nearly around 10. The students were divided into a group of 13 and they were sent for a case discussion. In the meantime, the students can talk among the group and make a strategy on how to progress with the case. This is totally up to students if they want to mingle beforehand or not.
The panel patiently listens to the discussion and as the time is about to get over, they alert us that we have so and so minutes left. The case given to us was related to the market condition of a certain item and how it can be improved.
Our discussion began with a good pace but later turned into a fish market. We came to no conclusion, which is not a good sign in a case discussion. We were then sent for Personal Interview. The panel asked me about my subjects and why I wanted to pursue an MBA. The questions were restricted to my subject knowledge as I had no work experience. The interview lasted for around 15 mins. It was rather grilling as they kept asking about the terminologies of the subjects I have studied during school. I wasn’t sure of my conversion as my feeling was that my interview was not good. But I converted and I was the happiest. Finally, all my struggle through the year paid off.
NMIMS CD-PI TIPS
- Practice Case Discussion as much as you can. There is no certain number that one should do in order to get comfortable with it. It is slightly different from GD; therefore, it needs to be practised.
- Always come to a conclusion in a CD, no matter right or wrong. The panel is just judging your decision-making skills and they don’t want a concrete solution to the problem. They just want to see how the students approach the problem.
- In case you are a fresher, have a thorough knowledge of the subjects you have studied in graduation and school.
Apart from that just be confident and believe in yourself. All the best!
