IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria 2025
IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria for MBA
I hope you all are doing well. Today, the discussion is all about the selection process of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM A or IIM Ahmedabad). It is in operation since 1961. IIM A became the first B-School in India to receive EQUIS(European Quality Improvement System) accreditation by EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development)
IIM Ahmedabad Selection Process 2025-2027
The selection process of IIM Ahmedabad consists of 2 steps. Firstly, the candidates are shortlisted for Analytical Writing Test(AWT) and Personal Interview(PI). The candidate has to apply using valid CAT score.
Important Note: Foreign nationals (holders of foreign passports) residing in India must have taken the GMAT Focus Edition or the previous format of the GMAT Exam at a test center. They should apply through the Supernumerary Quota category.
1. Preliminary Screening as per the following table
IIM Ahmedabad Minimum CAT Cut-Off
Category | Sectional Percentile
Quant/DILR/VARC |
Overall CAT Percentile |
General/EWS | 70 | 80 |
NC-OBC-cum-transgender | 65 | 75 |
SC | 60 | 70 |
ST | 50 | 60 |
PwD(General, EWS, NC-OBC-cum-transgender, SC) | 60 | 70 |
PwD(ST) | 50 | 60 |
At various stages of the selection process, an applicant’s ‘Application Rating‘ (AR) score will be utilized. The AR score is the sum of five rating scores: ‘A,’ ‘B,’ ‘C,’ ‘D,’ and ‘E.’ Rating scores A, B, C, and D (refer to Tables 2-5) are determined by the percentage of marks obtained in the 10th standard, 12th standard (based on the stream: Science, Commerce, or Arts & Humanities), bachelor’s degree program (depending on the discipline), and work experience (as of July 31, 2024), respectively. For details on academic disciplines, see Table 8. Rating score E is the gender diversity score, which is 0 for male candidates and 2 for all other candidates.

2. Shortlisting for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) & Personal Interview (PI)
The shortlisting process will be conducted in two stages.
Stage 1: (Selection of Exceptional Performers Across Disciplines)
IIMA aims to recognize outstanding candidates based on their previous academic achievements and CAT performance across various academic disciplines. In this stage, a select number of top candidates from each academic discipline will be shortlisted for AWT & PI based on their composite score (CS) as outlined below, provided they meet specific criteria.
From each academic category (AC) where the number of applicants to IIMA who appear for CAT-2024 from SC/ST/NC-OBC/PwD categories is at least 100, the top 5% within that academic category, limited to their respective categories (General/SC/ST/NC-OBC/PwD), will be shortlisted for AWT & PI. These groups are referred to as ACRC groups. The selection is based on the composite score (CS), subject to fulfilling criteria C1-C3. Upper limits on the number of candidates per ACRC group are specified in Table 6.
Composite Score (CS) Calculation:
CS (Composite Score) = ARF_CS * Normalized AR score + CATF_CS * Normalized overall score in CAT 2024
Where:
- ARF_CS (Application Rating Multiplication Factor for Composite Score) = 0.35
- CATF_CS (CAT Multiplication Factor for Composite Score) = 0.65
Stage 2
After removing the candidates selected in Stage 1 from each category (General, NC-OBC, SC, ST, and PwD), additional candidates will be shortlisted for AWT & PI based on their composite score (CS).
Final Selection
At this stage, the final selection will be based on a separate shortlisting process for each category (General, SC, ST, NC-OBC, PwD) using the candidates’ Final Composite Scores (FCS). The number of candidates selected in each reservation category will adhere to the proportions mandated by law.
The FCS for a candidate who participates in the AWT & PI will be calculated as follows:
FCS = PIF * Normalised PI Score + AWTF * Normalised AWT Score + CATF_FCS * Normalised CAT Score + ARF_FCS * Normalised AR Score
- Personal Interview Multiplication Factor (PIF) = 0.50
- AWT Multiplication Factor (AWTF) = 0.10
- Application Rating Multiplication Factor for Final Composite Score (ARF_FCS) = 0.15
- CAT Score Multiplication Factor for Final Composite Score (CATF_FCS) = 0.25
