INTRODUCTION
Experienced India batter Mithali Raj hopes to see a women’s edition of the Indian Premier League in a year or two after her team began its ICC Women’s World Twenty20 campaign with successive wins over New Zealand and Pakistan.
Women’s cricket team has now started coming on the focus yes, they are now enjoying the limelight. If we talk about the Indian women’s Cricket team they have given the proud moments to India indeed and all are proud of the team.
After the wonderful showdown and success of the Indian team in the ICC women’s world cup, the demand for a women’s IPL has grown up and have earned momentum.

- The Big Bash League in Australia is exclusively for women.
- Decided that there will be 2 teams of 15 players each comprising of 10 Indians and 5 overseas players.
- Also, the playing 11 will be in the same 7:4 ratio as it is in a men’s IPL game.
- The 2 teams are likely to be named IPL XI and BCCI XI. The BCCI has reached out to Australia, South Africa, and England cricket boards.
- The countries like Australia and England are on the top cricket rating and both country conduct (Kia) Super League and Women’s Big Bash League every year around the world.
- Mithali Raj, India’s women’s cricket captain, earns 7% of Virat Kohli’s salary.
DESCRIPTION: Let’s take a Deep Dive
Many women cricketers and fans feel that the Higher Official board of IPL can give a thought for Women’s IPL also to sustain interest in the game, to boost and attract more youngsters and sponsors this can be a welcome move but it’s not easy as it seems.
There are many hurdles in the path of this, as we can’t predict that people of the country will welcome and support the women in blue as they have been doing for men in blue. Also for IPL, we need a large pool of player, minimum of 60 players we need out of which 15 to 20 can we drafted over, here we lack as we don’t have players like Mithali, Harmanpreet, Smriti, Veda, Deepti, and Jhulan. We need more players like them.
It has been an all-around complete team performance by the girls so far, reaffirming their position as strong contenders and favourites to win the trophy.
Such remarkable wins by the Women in Blue have caught the attention of the audience, thereby acting as a sharp indicator of the overall development of women’s cricket safeguarding the interest of the cricketers.
India’s women cricket has reached a tipping point where baby steps taken to boost women’s cricket can go a long way in shaping the future of women’s cricket. IPL did not become an overnight success. The time has arrived at kick-start a revolution for the rise of women’s cricket in the form of launching Women’s IPL.
PROS of Women’s IPL
- Their game will improve by competing more and more
- They will get their face renowned as their male counterpart.
- People will encourage their daughters and sister to take up sports as their Careers.
- It will enhance their lifestyle & make them wealthy enough to fulfil their comfortable dreams.
- Modernization of stadiums.
- More tourism because of cricket.
CONS of Women’s IPL
- IPL if conducted for women won’t attract as much crowd as in the case of men as the component of hard-hitting, aggression on the field with some spit-spats on the field makes the game interesting which is unlikely to be seen in the case of women
- Organizing the League won’t be a big issue, but the audience is the main key here…
- IPL is more about the Fan-Following, Fan-base and the Crowd
CONCLUSION
People always think that women do not like cricket, but this taboo is surely wrong as you can see the female fan following in the current IPL itself. I hope that BCCI would look into this. Let this be a way to popularize women taking part in sports and we breaking the limits set by the elders.
Women IPL can also be a success as Pro Kabaddi and can change thinking of Indians that only cricket can bring mass Crowd which will be proven wrong as runs will call crowd.
