Hard Work vs Smart Work

Smart work vs Hard work

There is always debate on whether hard work is good or smart work? In the past only the output was important. The competition was less so time was not much important as people did not have many options. So to draw maximum output people used to work for more hours. But now companies and people are focusing on increasing productivity i.e, to gain maximum output in minimum time. This is where smart work comes into the picture. But it doesn’t mean we can ignore hard work totally as it is also important.

QUOTES

I don’t believe in luck or in hard work without the so-called “work smart”. It’s not all about how you work hard but it’s about how you manage your time, resources, mind to work together for a better output. ― Jayson Zabate

DESCRIPTION – Let’s take a Deep Dive

What is Smart Work?

Smart work refers to finding an effective and efficient way to do a task in the minimum possible time with the same workforce available before. In this more emphasis is given on prioritizing, organizing and planning the work in a smarter way.

Advantages of Smart work

  •       Improves Productivity
  •       Saves time
  •       Develops innovative and creative mindset
  •       Reduces physical stress

Disadvantages of Smart work

  •       Sometimes it may make us lazy
  •       Due to the need of more concentration loneliness can be faced
  •       Can be easily distracted

What is Hard Work?

Hard work is all about putting yourself through continuous work for hours to achieve a goal without caring for its worth. Here the conventional way is preferred to complete the task.

Advantages of Hard work

  •       Through hard work, we gain knowledge and experience
  •       This knowledge will help for analyzing the shortcuts
  •       Teaches patience and discipline
  •       We feel confident after achieving the goal

Disadvantages of Hard work

  •       Time-consuming
  •       Lots of physical efforts required(subjective)
  •       After failure sometimes it will be very difficult to cope up

Smart work vs Hard work which is preferred?

Both smart work and hard work is important to achieve success. Warren Buffet is known for making smart decisions in investment because in the past he has worked hard to gain knowledge.

Let us understand by another example. A player works hard to improve his skills, doing a lot of exercise and practice required to become an elite player. But only working hard is not sufficient for winning it. Identifying and analyzing the exact strengths and weak moves of the opponent is also important. Before a match, great players watch past matches of their opponent and develop the strategy according to it. Many players also re-watch their own matches to analyze where and which skills are lacking and then they work hard to eliminate those loopholes by improving that skill.

Thomas Alva Edison invented the incandescent lamp with high resistance. Many inventors at the same time tried to perfect incandescent lamps to “subdivide” electric light but they failed. But Edison before coming to the solution at least worked on 3000 theories. And after working on these many theories, he came to the strategy to develop a high resistance system that would require far less electrical power than was used for the arc lamps. Here it can be observed that Edison did hard work by studying various theories and smart work by coming up with a simple solution.

Here without proper analysis of the opponent, only hard work will not help to achieve the dream of winning a match as most of the players nowadays exercise the whole year. Also, it is equally true that only strategy is not sufficient. Even though a player knows all the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent, if his physical stamina is very less then he will definitely lose the match.

CONCLUSION

With the help of smart work, plan out the work and decide what different techniques can be used. Hard work helps us to be consistent in what we do. To work smartly, first of all, we need to get all the knowledge and different possible ways to do the work, for this hard work is required. So, hard work and smart work both are essential for a successful life.
